Process of examining last 40 cm of intestines (rectum and sigmoid colon) with colonoscopy device.
It is performed to patients whose fecal occult blood test resulted positive, has ulcerative colitis or a colorectal cancer story in the family.
Anal canal lesions (hemorrhoid, fistula) are diagnosed with sigmoidoscopy. Also cancers, ulcers and abnormal growth called polyps in rectum and colon can be seen. Biopsies can be taken from suspected areas for sending to pathology.
