All women notice a hardness in their breasts at some point in their lives.
In such a case, cancer comes to mind first. The most common finding among the symptoms of breast cancer is palpation of a mass in the breast. Most of these masses are benign tumors. However, when a lump in the breast is palpable, it should be investigated.
A palpable mass in the breast can be one of two different structures. The mass may be a fluid-filled sac. We call this a cyst. Cysts are usually larger and painful during menstruation. It is more common in the 40s, especially before menopause. Simple cysts are not among the symptoms of breast cancer. Masses that may be a sign of breast cancer are formations filled with a different tissue; We call these solid masses. The best way to distinguish these two different structures is to examine the mass with ultrasound.
